The edges of the leaves and branches of this
redwood tree, along with the strong backlighting and dense fog,
combine to cause a diffraction effect, producing these spectacular
rays of light radiating outward from the sun. There is so much
light, and the rays are so well defined, that this scene takes
on almost mystical proportions. The high-contrast picture is
almost monochromatic, using a palette of pastel greens. |
